Supporting Our Marine Environment

From the beginning, Triton’s Realm has been committed to giving back. We believe it’s the right thing to do because we care about the health of our environment. In fact, long before we created our first shirt we joined forces with 1% for the Planet. Their mission is to accelerate smart environmental giving by matching companies with nonprofits that are committed to protecting the environment.

1% for the Planet members pledge to create a healthier planet by donating one percent or more of sales to environmental nonprofits. Founders Yvon Chouinard of Patagonia and Craig Mathews of Blue Ribbon Flies believe that collectively, member businesses can be a powerful source to solving the world’s environmental problems.

We echo their sentiments and believe everyone can make a difference to their own 1% - a cause that they care deeply about. As a 1% for the Planet member we have chosen to support the Coral Restoration Foundation (CRF) in Key Largo, Florida. CRF manages several coral nurseries in the Florida Keys to help critically endangered staghorn and elkhorn coral grow into thriving colonies. Since 2007 CRF has planted more than 100,000 corals back onto the Florida Reef Tract. Many of these corals have grown into successful colonies with the ability to spawn, kick-starting the reefs' natural process of recovery.

Our partnership with the Coral Restoration Foundation goes beyond our mutual interest in preserving the reefs. Triton’s Realm helps broaden the reach of CRF’s educational initiatives by hosting a version of their signature event, called Coralpalooza, here on St. Croix. Coralpalooza aims to raise awareness about the health of coral reefs around the world. Our island edition of the event brings together local nonprofits including St. Croix Environmental Association (SEA), The Nature Conservancy, and the Caribbean Oceanic Education & Restoration Foundation (C.O.R.E.) to raise awareness of the importance of protecting our reefs.

Coralpalooza St. Croix is an annual weekend event that begins with lectures on coral health and marine conservation topics, and ends with Reef Restoration Day that gets participants exploring our underwater world. Coralpalooza welcomes anyone with an interest in coral restoration to experience it first-hand with a dive or snorkeling tour of the coral nursery in Cane Bay.

We’re inspired by the good work that 1% for the Planet and the Coral Restoration Foundation are doing to support environmental solutions. When you support us, we support them to build a healthier planet.
